shift..

Shifting has always been a part of my life...
but one significant shift happened when i finished my class 12 in calcutta and was informed my
family was moving to chennai, back then i remember feeling absolutely nothing, i had no expect
tations or inhibitions ,seen and been through too much i guess to feel any.
Chennai as its now called has always been Madras and synonymous to the out of the world coffee and my yearly christmas celebrations with family here.
I'm no stranger to this city have been coming here all through my childhood back then it wasnt as commercialised and pizza corner with an aeroplane jutting out was the only place i ever went to..hehe,i know i'm sounding a little too old and aged here but it won't t be wrong to say i've seen the city develop over the years.

I must admit i was looking forward to college life here although i had no idea where i'd be joining.
so i land at chennai airport after a terrible flight almost wishing we could take the next flight back but once into the city i realise i have to make this city my own.
Initially i missed calcutta a lot and always felt out of place, it was difficult more so because i knew no one here except a couple of my relatives.
anyway life in chennai jus kickstarted i blended in and fell in love with the city , given
a choice of all the cities i've stayed in i'd still pick chennai to do my grad, the city is the right blend of the new and the old, sure it has its small problems and issues but to me all this is what makes chennai what it is.i've learnt to maintain my own identity and still be appreciated.viewpoints may differ but that doesnot essentially have to put a stop to discussion and exchange of ideas.

Now for the fun part....
Special mention is to be made to the fact the city has some amazing cars. Thanks
to all you rich car-addicts i get an eyetreat each time I'm out on the street. And also managed
to get my drivers license :)

Oh!!!and the beaches are lovely, drive down ecr is heavenly and the little coffeshops and my evergreen-fruitshop are great.Multiplexes..sathyam..Landmarks spread all over suffice my wants for books and the various old bulidings cater to my architectural interests ,the santhome church, old government buildings redone not demolished to keep the city true to its past ,the connemera library and its beautiful display of paintings and the theatre inside.

What i love most about chennai is that it offers something for everyone..like an active theatre scene for play lovers contrasting to this an even more active nightlife for the partygoers..a good shopping experience for shopoholics and some good concerts once in a while for music lovers.

Chennai sure will remain a place i cherish for numerous reasons but most of all because i didnt really have to try to fit in, i was taken under her arms and i knew i was here to stay maybe not in person for ever but in spirit and feeling. For now i'm more than happy to be here and am looking forward to make the most out of
the rocking city!!

You like Chennai because you came from Calcutta or even otherwise?
